Compost, the Quiet Hero makes an encore performance at the 2011 National Restaurant Association Show on Saturday, May 21 noon – 1:30 p.m. The formal session name is Compost, the Quiet Hero Returns with the HOW.

National Restaurant Association’s announcement of the collaboration with
Ei and ZWZ at the ZWZ Two-Year Anniversary Press Conference, the media

Ecco Recognized on CNN for Closing the Loop
this spring CNN photojournalist William Walker spent the better part
of a day at Ecco with Chef Micah Willix to capture the complete closing
the loop process from the rooftop garden, to food prep for evening
dining, to food waste collection for composting, to using the compost in
the on-site garden. The story is a fantastic view of an Atlanta local
hero who understands the importance of creating vibrant local,
sustainable food production.

Restaurant Forum’s April Issue: A Valuable Resource
Restaurant Forum's April issue,
the annual Green Issue, is a valuable resource, especially for
foodservice operators hesitant to travel down green brick road.
Managing editor Christy Simo's article, Cook Up Some Savings. How Your Restaurant - Yes, Yours! - Can Save the World While Saving You Money
is superb. With Patrick Cuccaro of Affairs to Remember (Zero Waste
Zone - Caterers Champion!) and Tad Mitchell of Six Feet Under sharing
their experiences, Christy weaves an easy path to follow with simple
suggestions for immediate and longer-term action. The emphasis is on
how regular maintenance and paying attention are keys to running a less

Spring POWER Meeting
The April 21 POWER – Perishable Organics Waste to Energy Recycling
– was EXCELLENT with strong attendance and stellar presentations. To

Recycling Destination Tours Continue
In April ZWZ Team members Roy Edwards of the Sustainability Division of the GA DNR, Scott Seydel Chair of Ei’s Advisory Council and Holly Elmore visited with Adam Glasgow of WastePro for a tour of the Atlanta MRF (materials recovery facility). IFSS: Taking the Gray out of Green
