Local & National Media Loves NRA | Ei | ZWZ Relationship

Since the National Restaurant Association’s announcement of the collaboration with Ei and ZWZ at the ZWZ Two-Year Anniversary Press Conference, the media has embraced the relationship.  Visit the ZWZ Blog post, ZWZ Garners National Support for details on the press conference and the NRA’s announcement.  Here is some of the recent media:
  • March 22 Nation’s Restaurant News article, NRA, Environmental Group Join Forces for 'Zero Waste' Initiative.  Patrick Cuccaro of Affairs to Remember and ZWZ-Caterers Champion is featured in the first two paragraphs.  An article pdf may be downloaded on the Ei National Media Page
  • April 25 NRA Blog post Composting No Longer Fringe Activity for Restaurants promotes Compost, the Quiet Hero Returns with the HOW NRA Show session.
  • Restaurant Forum’s April issue includes a wonderful article, Collaborating for Zero Waste, by Debby Cannon, Director of the GSU School of Hospitality and Ei Board member.  Visit the ZWZ Blog post at this link for details on the article and on-line link.

Ecco Recognized on CNN for Closing the Loop

Early this spring CNN photojournalist William Walker spent the better part of a day at Ecco with Chef Micah Willix to capture the complete closing the loop process from the rooftop garden, to food prep for evening dining, to food waste collection for composting, to using the compost in the on-site garden.  The story is a fantastic view of an Atlanta local hero who understands the importance of creating vibrant local, sustainable food production.

Visit the ZWZ Blog post, Yippee - Chef Micah @ Ecco is World Famous! for more details on the story and the link to the CNN video that aired in domestic and international markets.

Restaurant Forum’s April Issue:  A Valuable Resource

Restaurant Forum's April issue, the annual Green Issue, is a valuable resource, especially for foodservice operators hesitant to travel down green brick road.

Managing editor Christy Simo's article, Cook Up Some Savings.  How Your Restaurant - Yes, Yours! - Can Save the World While Saving You Money is superb.  With Patrick Cuccaro of Affairs to Remember (Zero Waste Zone - Caterers Champion!) and Tad Mitchell of Six Feet Under sharing their experiences, Christy weaves an easy path to follow with simple suggestions for immediate and longer-term action.  The emphasis is on how regular maintenance and paying attention are keys to running a less wasteful, more profitable business.  Read the IMPACT Blog post, Green Business Practices, Profitable Business Practices for more details on the article.

Spring POWER Meeting

The April 21 POWER – Perishable Organics Waste to Energy Recycling – was EXCELLENT with strong attendance and stellar presentations.  To review the POWER meeting agenda, notes, attendees and/or download the PPT presentations visit the POWER Meeting Page at this link.  The ZWZ Blog post, Spring POWER Meeting is Stellar gives a solid meeting overview and the Ei Facebook page has a POWER photo album  with meeting pictures.

Recycling Destination Tours Continue

In April ZWZ Team members Roy Edwards of the Sustainability Division of the GA DNR, Scott Seydel Chair of Ei’s Advisory Council and Holly Elmore visited with Adam Glasgow of WastePro for a tour of the Atlanta MRF (materials recovery facility).  Read the ZWZ Blog post, Recycling Contamination – Who is Responsible? for details on the tour and other observations.
