Regeneration in ACTION! Ei continues to expand our global impact via the WorldChefs Association joining the Ei Strategic Ally program, co-hosting the POCACITO Town Hall meeting for a European delegation, endorsing a global plastics initiative, and Ei Founder Holly Elmore attending The Savory Institute’s Global Network Reunion. In addition, the first Ei Exploration was a HUGE success and the Regeneration in ACTION Magazine surpassed a monumental milestone. YES, it was a busy fall filled with tremendous impact!
The impetus for the formal collaboration is Ei’s support of the Feed the Planet Food-Waste Challenge. In July Ei Founder Holly Elmore presented on The Profitability of Waste: the business case for food-waste reduction on the Feed the Planet plenary panel at the Worldchefs Congress & Expo 2018 in Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia. The Food Waste Challenge was announced as the panel closed.
For a synopsis of Holly’s presentation, visit the RiA Magazine article, The Profitability of Waste: the business case for food-waste reduction. Feed the Planet is a WorldChefs initiative designed to inspire sustainable food consumption among communities and professionals. In addition, Feed the Planet supports people in need through emergency relief, food poverty alleviation, and education.
Ei Exploration of Fungi, Soil Health, and World Hunger
On October 16, 2018, Ei hosted the first Ei Exploration. A group of diverse, passionate industry leaders traveled from California, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to participate in the Ei Exploration of Fungi, Soil Health, and World Hunger in Upstate South Carolina. The empowering day was in partnership with Ei Strategic Ally Feed & Seed.
The Ei Exploration of Fungi, Soil Health, and World Hunger laid the groundwork for a diverse group of industry experts and leaders to work together on crafting solutions for the many challenges facing life on planet Earth. Collective action is incredibly more powerful and effective than individual action. Stay tuned as a new chapter in regenerating the planet is unfolding.
The Ei Team welcomes Kellogg Garden Products (KGP) to the Ei Supporter Program. Ei Founder Holly Elmore and KGP Board Chair and Director of Sustainability Kathy Kellogg Johnson met at the 2010 U.S. Composting Council (USCC) Conference in Orlando.
At the 2018 USCC Conference in Atlanta, Kathy presented on the Ei-hosted panel, Compost’s Empowering Role in Sustainable Soils, the conference’s most popular break-out session. The RiA Magazine article, GAME WON: 2018 composting conference breaks records, features the panel.
In October, Kathy traveled from California to join the Ei Exploration of Fungi, Soil Health, and World Hunger.
Nearly a century ago, H. Clay Kellogg fathered the foundation for organic farming before organic grew from a buzzword to a movement to a common way of farming.
From the KGP website: Organic is more than a word on a label. Building Life – In the Soil, In Waterways, and In Communities – is what it means to us. Every Kellogg Garden Organics and G&B Organics Soil and Fertilizer is OMRI Listed, compliant with the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP). Organic Builds Life.

From Circular Economy to Circular Society
Ei co-hosted the September 18 POCACITO From Circular Economy to Circular Society Town Hall Meeting.
Funded by the European Union (EU), the Ecologic Institute (EIUS) orchestrates POCACITO delegations of European industry leaders on visits to select U.S. cities. Delegates represent a diverse cross-section of government stewards, activists, entrepreneurs, and non-profit executives from the EU.
It was an honor the EIUS selected Atlanta for a POCACITO delegate visit. Events over the two days were perfect venues for the delegates and Atlanta hosts to share their accomplishments and benefit from each other’s challenges, lessons learned, and successes.
The commitment was officially unveiled by Ellen MacArthur at the Our Ocean conference in Bali on 29th October. Ei is honored to join 250 organizations worldwide as an Endorser of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation Global Commitment to eliminate plastic pollution at its source.
